Continue ShoppingThe holiday season has arrived, and some people likely aren’t finding it all that easy to get into the holiday spirit. With the stress of current events and everyday life, it can been hard to relax and simply enjoy the holidays.
But here’s the thing: Everyone deserves a break. Why not take the time to set aside the smartphone, get off social media, stop obsessing over every news alert and get into the holiday spirit?
Yes, it’s not always so easy to do, but if you’re looking for ways to jumpstart your journey toward enjoying the holidays, here are few ideas to get you into the mood.
Scary movies on Halloween - and even all the way up to Thanksgiving. There are too many good ones to limit to one night, from atmospheric Tim Burton movies and “Addams Family” comedies to the downright terrifying. But the real winners in this area are the many, many Christmas movies. They include classics such as “Miracle on 34th Street” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” as well as newer movies such as “A Christmas Story,” “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” and “Elf.”
These may work better than movies to get you into the holiday spirit, because our memories of these shows are wrapped up in our own childhood. “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer,” anyone? Or how about “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” and “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas?” These have been holiday favorites for decades for a reason - they’ve really, really got the holiday spirit.
A bit of leftover Halloween candy that lasts into November never hurt anyone. And just thinking about your Thanksgiving dinner can give you those holiday “feels.” Some great items to make it seems like the holidays include eggnog, peppermint sticks and hot chocolate. Get them on your grocery list and start early this year.
Why not combine holiday fun with a bit of practicality? Wearing a pair of holiday compression socks not only supports great blood flow in the legs, combating varicose veins and swelling, but they also look very cool. Plus, the holiday designs on these socks scream “enjoy the holidays!”
There’s nothing wrong with playing “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” anytime you like, if you feel like it. Christmas songs are a genre all to themselves, from those mellow old tunes of Bing Crosby to rock bands covering the classics. It doesn’t matter what you listen to, though, if it’s what makes you feel better and ready to enjoy the holidays.
All the above are ways to help you get into the holiday spirit. Many of them have worked for generations. If there’s ever been a year to indulge yourself, this is the one. Don’t hesitate to get the holidays started early in your home.
